Introduction
Blocked sewer lines can cause severe sanitation problems in densely populated areas. In North Karachi, the industrial sector faced recurring sewer blockages that disrupted daily life and posed environmental hazards. Global Engineering Links (GEL) was called upon for urgent desilting and replacement of defective sewerage lines in key sectors.
Project Overview
The project included the emergent cleaning and replacement of portions of 48″, 42″, 36″, and 30″ diameter sewer lines. These critical works aimed to restore smooth flow and prevent sewerage overflow.
Scope of Work
- Desilting through winching machines and manual support
- Cleaning and clearing of trunk sewer lines
- Replacement of collapsed sections with new durable pipes
- Rapid mobilization of teams to complete within stipulated deadlines
Challenges and Solutions
The urgent timeline was a major challenge. With only 20–60 days for various works, GEL had to deploy multiple teams simultaneously. Specialized winching equipment and strict supervision ensured that deadlines were met without compromising on quality.
Impact
The successful completion of these works brought immediate relief to residents and industries in North Karachi. Restored sewerage flows reduced health risks, improved hygiene, and stabilized urban drainage.
Conclusion
GEL’s ability to respond to urgent municipal needs under tight timelines underscores our commitment to serving communities with effective engineering solutions.
