Introduction
Small-scale poultry farming provides food security and income for rural households. Recognizing this, the Danish Red Cross engaged Global Engineering Links (GEL) to supply poultry birds to communities in Sindh.
Project Overview
The project supplied Misri race poultry—both hens and cocks—to farming households, ensuring food availability and income generation.
Scope of Work
- Supply of vaccinated hens and cocks, aged 8–12 weeks
- Distribution of birds in bulk to communities
- Veterinary checks to ensure animal health
- Support for families on feeding and poultry care
Challenges and Solutions
Ensuring poultry were disease-free and well-transported was critical. GEL coordinated with veterinary experts and provided carefully handled deliveries to beneficiaries.
Impact
The poultry project enhanced household nutrition and created opportunities for families to sell eggs and poultry in local markets.
Conclusion
By enabling small-scale poultry farming, GEL strengthened food security and boosted household incomes in rural Sindh.
